How to clip League of Legends on PC

Updated 5 November 2026

League of Legends plays hot and cold: twenty quiet minutes of farming, then a teamfight that decides the game in ten seconds. Clippy keeps the recent part of the match in memory, so after a pentakill or a stolen Baron you press one key and the fight, including the setup before it, is saved.

Clip League of Legends in four steps

  1. Download Clippy and open it once. It sits in the tray from then on.
  2. Start League of Legends. Clippy sees the game start and begins keeping the last minute in memory, with nothing to set up.
  3. When something happens worth keeping, press F8. That minute is saved as an MP4 named after the game and the time.
  4. Open the clip in Clippy to trim it, then press Share for a link, or export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.

League of Legends moments worth clipping

  • A pentakill or a quadra that wipes the enemy team in one fight.
  • A Baron or Dragon steal with a smite or a long-range ability.
  • An outplay at low health that turns a gank around.
  • A Flash and crowd control combo that catches the enemy carry.
  • A base race or backdoor that ends the game.

Good Clippy settings for League of Legends

Replay length 2 minutes

Teamfights in League often start with a minute of positioning around an objective, and two minutes keeps the setup as well as the payoff.

Frame rate 60 fps

The top-down camera moves less than a shooter's, so 60 fps looks clean and leaves memory for a longer buffer.

Input overlay On

It draws the keys you pressed over the clip, so viewers can see the ability order and the Flash timing behind a combo.

How Clippy records League of Legends

Clippy records the League of Legends game window only, not the client or your desktop, through Windows Graphics Capture. Nothing is injected into the game process.

If you play in exclusive fullscreen and alt-tab out while dead, the replay buffer survives. If Clippy ever does not pick the game up, you can add it in Settings.

Sharing is up to you: clips stay on your disk until you press Share, and a link plays for anyone without an account. Too big for Discord? See sending clips under the size limit.

Questions

How do I save a League of Legends teamfight after it happened?

Press your save key (F8 by default). Clippy keeps the last stretch of the game in memory, so the fight is already recorded when you press it.

Can I mark several plays in one League clip?

Yes. Clippy's editor has chapters: mark each moment and jump between them, then trim or export the part you want.

Does Clippy record the League client or only the game?

Clippy records the game's window only, never the whole desktop, so the client, notifications and other windows stay out of clips.
