How to clip GTA V on PC

Updated 5 November 2026

GTA V produces clips you could never plan: a car chase that ends in a spectacular crash, a heist finale that goes sideways, a stunt jump that lands perfectly. Clippy records in the background, so you press one key after it happens and the clip is saved.

Clip GTA V in four steps

  1. Download Clippy and open it once. It sits in the tray from then on.
  2. Start GTA V. Clippy sees the game start and begins keeping the last minute in memory, with nothing to set up.
  3. When something happens worth keeping, press F8. That minute is saved as an MP4 named after the game and the time.
  4. Open the clip in Clippy to trim it, then press Share for a link, or export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.

GTA V moments worth clipping

  • A police chase that ends in a spectacular crash.
  • A stunt jump landed cleanly, or missed in style.
  • A heist finale that goes wrong at the worst moment.
  • A ragdoll fall or physics glitch that makes no sense.
  • A close race finish in GTA Online.

Good Clippy settings for GTA V

Replay length 2 minutes

Chases in GTA V build for a while before they end, and two minutes keeps the build-up that makes the crash funny.

Frame rate 60 fps

Driving and gunfights look smooth at 60, and the replay buffer stays lighter on memory than at 144.

Second save key Last 15 seconds

A stunt jump or a ragdoll is over in seconds, and a 15 second clip is ready to post as it is.

How Clippy records GTA V

GTA V is on Steam, and Clippy knows tens of thousands of Steam games by name, so recording starts when the game loads.

If you play in exclusive fullscreen and alt-tab out to a browser, the replay buffer survives and recording picks up when you come back. Clippy captures the game window only and injects nothing into it.

Sharing is up to you: clips stay on your disk until you press Share, and a link plays for anyone without an account. Too big for Discord? See sending clips under the size limit.

Questions

How do I clip GTA V on PC after something happens?

Install Clippy and play. Press F8 and the last stretch of gameplay is saved as an MP4 on your disk, ready to trim in Clippy's editor.

Can I slow down a GTA V crash?

Yes. The editor plays and exports at 0.25x, 0.5x, 1.5x or 2x, so a crash can be slowed right down.

Does alt-tabbing out of GTA V break the recording?

No. When you alt-tab out of exclusive fullscreen and back, the replay buffer survives.
