How to clip Apex Legends on PC

Updated 5 November 2026

Apex Legends fights move fast and end in a burst: a third party that turns into a squad wipe, a movement play off a zipline, a final circle won on one bar of health. Clippy holds the recent part of the match in memory, so you press one key once the dust settles and the whole fight is saved.

Clip Apex Legends in four steps

  1. Download Clippy and open it once. It sits in the tray from then on.
  2. Start Apex Legends. Clippy sees the game start and begins keeping the last minute in memory, with nothing to set up.
  3. When something happens worth keeping, press F8. That minute is saved as an MP4 named after the game and the time.
  4. Open the clip in Clippy to trim it, then press Share for a link, or export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.

Apex Legends moments worth clipping

  • A squad wipe where you knock and finish all three players.
  • A third party that steals a fight from two other squads.
  • A slide, zipline or wall-jump play that gets you out of a bad spot.
  • A respawn and the comeback that follows it.
  • The final circle and the shot that wins the match.

Good Clippy settings for Apex Legends

Replay length 2 minutes

Apex fights often roll from one squad into the next, and two minutes keeps the third party along with the first fight.

Frame rate 144 fps

Fast strafing and movement tech smear at lower frame rates, and Settings shows whether Apex really reaches 144 on your machine.

Separate audio tracks On (Windows 11)

Game sound, Discord and your mic land on separate tracks, so you can keep your squad's callouts or mute them before posting the clip.

How Clippy records Apex Legends

Apex Legends is on Steam, and Clippy knows tens of thousands of Steam games by name, so recording starts on its own when the game opens.

Clippy records the Apex window through Windows Graphics Capture and injects nothing into the game process. Pop-ups and other windows never land in the clip.

Sharing is up to you: clips stay on your disk until you press Share, and a link plays for anyone without an account. Too big for Discord? See sending clips under the size limit.

Questions

How do I clip Apex Legends without an NVIDIA card?

Clippy encodes on NVIDIA (NVENC), AMD (AMF) and Intel (Quick Sync) graphics, with a software fallback, so it works whatever card you have.

Can I mute my squad in an Apex clip?

On Windows 11, Discord and other sound are recorded on their own track. In the editor set that track to 0% or mute it and the game sound stays.

Where do my Apex clips go?

They are plain MP4 files on your disk, named after the game and the time. You can turn on a folder per game in Settings.
