How to clip Rust on PC
Updated 5 November 2026
Rust moments come out of nowhere: a door camper at your base, an online raid that turns into a fight, a stranger on the beach who pulls a gun mid-conversation. Clippy records the whole time you play, so when it happens you press one key and the last few minutes are saved.
Clip Rust in four steps
- Download Clippy and open it once. It sits in the tray from then on.
- Start Rust. Clippy sees the game start and begins keeping the last minute in memory, with nothing to set up.
- When something happens worth keeping, press F8. That minute is saved as an MP4 named after the game and the time.
- Open the clip in Clippy to trim it, then press Share for a link, or export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.
Rust moments worth clipping
- An online raid defence where you hold off a bigger group.
- A roam that ends with your team wiping another group.
- A conversation over proximity voice that turns into a betrayal.
- A lucky shot that kills a fully kitted player with a starter weapon.
- A door camp that pays off, or goes badly wrong.
Good Clippy settings for Rust
Raids and roams in Rust build slowly, and three minutes keeps the approach as well as the fight.
Rust fights are often at range across open ground, and 60 fps keeps the buffer light on a game that already uses a lot of memory.
Your mic is only recorded while you hold the key, so clips carry what you said to strangers and not the noise in your room.
How Clippy records Rust
Rust is built with Unity, and Clippy recognises Unity games by how they are built. It is also on Steam, whose games Clippy knows by name, so recording starts on its own.
Clippy captures the Rust window through Windows Graphics Capture and does not inject anything into the game process.
Sharing is up to you: clips stay on your disk until you press Share, and a link plays for anyone without an account. Too big for Discord? See sending clips under the size limit.
Questions
How do I clip a Rust raid that started before I pressed record?
You do not need to press record. Clippy keeps the last stretch in memory, so pressing your save key after the raid keeps what came before it.
Can I keep proximity chat in my Rust clips?
Yes. Other players' voices are part of the game sound, and your own mic is recorded on its own track. Both can be adjusted in the editor.
Can I mark several fights in one Rust clip?
Yes. Add chapters in the editor to mark each fight and jump between them.
