How to clip Rocket League on PC

Updated 5 November 2026

Rocket League clips are about mechanics: a ceiling shot, an air dribble into the top corner, a save off the crossbar in overtime. Clippy records while you play, and since its save key can be a controller button, you can clip a goal without taking your hands off the pad.

Clip Rocket League in four steps

  1. Download Clippy and open it once. It sits in the tray from then on.
  2. Start Rocket League. Clippy sees the game start and begins keeping the last minute in memory, with nothing to set up.
  3. When something happens worth keeping, press F8. That minute is saved as an MP4 named after the game and the time.
  4. Open the clip in Clippy to trim it, then press Share for a link, or export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.

Rocket League moments worth clipping

  • An air dribble or flip reset that ends in a goal.
  • A ceiling shot or double tap off the backboard.
  • A save on the goal line in overtime.
  • A last-second goal that ties the game before the ball hits the ground.
  • A demolition that clears the way for a teammate.

Good Clippy settings for Rocket League

Replay length 30 seconds

A Rocket League play from kickoff touch to goal is short, and a short buffer means less trimming afterwards.

Frame rate 120 fps

Aerial mechanics and fast rotations look much smoother at 120, and slowed-down replays of a flip reset stay clean.

Save key A controller button

Most players use a pad, and binding save to a spare button means you can clip a goal while the replay is still playing.

How Clippy records Rocket League

Clippy records the Rocket League window only, through Windows Graphics Capture, and does not inject anything into the game. If you play in exclusive fullscreen and alt-tab out, the replay buffer survives.

If Clippy does not pick Rocket League up on your launcher, add it once in Settings.

Sharing is up to you: clips stay on your disk until you press Share, and a link plays for anyone without an account. Too big for Discord? See sending clips under the size limit.

Questions

Can I clip Rocket League with my controller?

Yes. Any Clippy save key can be a controller button, as well as a keyboard key or a mouse side button.

Can I show my controller inputs on a Rocket League clip?

Yes. The optional input overlay draws the buttons, sticks and triggers you used over the clip, which is how people show the inputs behind a mechanic.

How do I slow down a Rocket League goal?

Open it in the editor and set the speed to 0.5x or 0.25x before you export.
