How to clip War Thunder on PC

Updated 5 November 2026

War Thunder clips come from three kinds of battle: a tank shot through a weak spot, a dogfight won at low altitude, a ship sunk at long range. Clippy records in the background, so one key after the battle keeps the moment as an MP4.

Clip War Thunder in four steps

  1. Download Clippy and open it once. It sits in the tray from then on.
  2. Start War Thunder. Clippy sees the game start and begins keeping the last minute in memory, with nothing to set up.
  3. When something happens worth keeping, press F8. That minute is saved as an MP4 named after the game and the time.
  4. Open the clip in Clippy to trim it, then press Share for a link, or export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.

War Thunder moments worth clipping

  • A one-shot kill on a tank through its ammunition rack.
  • A dogfight won at treetop height.
  • A bombing run that takes out a base or a column of tanks.
  • A long-range naval shot that sinks a ship.
  • A last-tank comeback that wins the match.

Good Clippy settings for War Thunder

Replay length 3 minutes

Air engagements and flanks take time to set up, and three minutes keeps the approach as well as the kill.

Frame rate 60 fps

Vehicle combat reads well at 60, and the lighter buffer leaves room for a longer replay.

Save key A mouse side button

In mouse aim your hand already sits on the mouse, so a side button saves the clip without reaching for the keyboard.

How Clippy records War Thunder

War Thunder is on Steam, and Clippy knows tens of thousands of Steam games by name, so recording starts when the game opens.

Clippy records the War Thunder window only, through Windows Graphics Capture, and does not inject anything into the game. If you play in exclusive fullscreen and alt-tab out, the replay buffer survives.

Sharing is up to you: clips stay on your disk until you press Share, and a link plays for anyone without an account. Too big for Discord? See sending clips under the size limit.
