How to automatically clip stream highlights
Updated 5 November 2026
Clippy's streamer mode saves a clip by itself at the moments that matter: when you get loud on your mic, when your Twitch chat speeds up, when viewers type !clip, or when you press a marker key. After the stream, a review screen lists those moments best first, and a recap joins the best of them into one video. Streamer mode is off by default, and only chat counts are kept.
What streamer mode watches for
While you stream, you rarely have a free hand for a save key. Streamer mode watches a few signals instead and saves a clip when one of them says something happened.
- Your voice. When you get loud on your mic, that is usually a reaction worth keeping.
- Chat speed. When Twitch chat suddenly speeds up, viewers saw something.
- !clip in chat. Viewers can ask for a clip by typing !clip.
- A marker key. Press it yourself when you know a moment landed.
Why automatic clips still need a quick look
No signal is perfect on its own. You might get loud laughing at something off screen, and chat might rush because of a joke rather than a play. Automatic clipping is there to make sure the good moments are caught. Choosing which ones to post is still your call, which is what the review screen is for.
Your own save key still works
Clips from streamer mode are kept as copies, so your own save key still has the full buffer. If streamer mode catches a moment and you press F8 a few seconds later, you get the whole replay you expect, not a stump of it.
That means you can treat streamer mode as a safety net. Clip what you notice yourself, and let it catch the moments you were too busy to clip.
Review your highlights and make a recap
When the stream ends, the review screen lists the stream's moments, best first. Start at the top: those are the moments where the signals agreed most. Each one is a normal clip, so you can open it in the editor, trim it, export it vertical for TikTok, Shorts or Reels, or share a link.
A stream recap joins the best moments into one video. Post it for followers who missed the stream, or as a summary on your channel the next day. It turns a long stream into something people can catch up on quickly, and the single clips are still there to post one by one through the week.
Stream decks, Streamer.bot and OBS
Streamer mode works with stream decks, Streamer.bot and OBS through a local endpoint on your own PC. Put a marker on a stream deck button, or trigger one from a Streamer.bot action, so a moment can be marked without leaving the game.
If you use OBS, Clippy reads its live state, so each moment knows how far into the stream it happened. That makes it easy to find the same moment in your VOD when you want the longer context around a clip, or to point viewers to the right spot.
Set it up, and what is kept from chat
Streamer mode is off by default. Until you turn it on, none of this runs.
Only chat counts are kept, never message text or names. Streamer mode needs to know how fast chat is moving and whether someone asked for a clip, and nothing more. Your clips stay on your disk until you press Share on one.
- Download Clippy and let it record your game as normal.
- Turn on streamer mode in Clippy.
- Stream as usual. Press your marker key when you know a moment landed.
- After the stream, open the review screen and go through the moments.
- Make a recap, or export the best clips one by one.
