How to share gaming clips
Updated 5 November 2026
The quickest way to share a gaming clip is a link: upload it once and paste the link wherever your friends are. For Discord you can also send the file itself if it fits the upload limit, and for TikTok, Shorts and Reels you need a vertical 9:16 version. Clippy does all three from the same clip.
Pick the right way to share
Where the clip is going decides how to send it. A link works everywhere and does not care about file size. A file sent directly on Discord plays inline but has to fit the upload limit. Social platforms want vertical video and usually look better with captions or text.
Whichever you choose, trim the clip first. A clip that starts right before the action is far more likely to be watched to the end than one that opens with twenty seconds of walking.
Share with a link from Clippy
Clippy keeps clips on your disk until you press Share on one. Then it uploads that clip to clippy.gg and copies a link.
- Open the clip in Clippy and trim it.
- Press Share and choose public, unlisted or private. You can change this later.
- Paste the link. Anyone with it can watch, no account needed, and it shows as a clean embed on Discord and X.
- One upload serves every place you paste the link, so a group chat, a forum post and a post on X all point to the same copy.
- Only the clip you share is uploaded. The rest of your library stays on your disk.
Sending clips on Discord
A Clippy link embeds cleanly in Discord, so pasting it is often all you need. If you would rather send the file itself, it has to fit Discord's upload limit, which for free accounts is 10 MB at the time of writing. Clippy's "Fit under N MB" export lowers the bitrate, and the resolution when needed, to bring a clip under the size you set. The Discord file size guide goes into detail.
If you post clips to your own server regularly, Clippy can post shared clips to a Discord channel automatically through a webhook.
TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels
All three are vertical 9:16, so a widescreen game clip needs reframing. Clippy's vertical export can fill the frame (cropped) or keep the whole picture over a blurred background. If you record your webcam, layouts can put the camera in a panel above or below the game.
Captions help viewers who watch with the sound off. Clippy generates captions on your own PC, nothing uploaded, and can highlight the word being spoken; you can edit them before export. You can also add up to three text items and your own logo. See gaming clips for TikTok.
Before you press Share
- Check the audio. On Windows 11 Clippy records game, other sound and mic as separate tracks, so you can mute voice chat before posting.
- Give it a title. "Suggest with AI" can write a title, description and tags when you are signed in, and asks before anything leaves your PC.
- Your webcam is a separate file beside the clip and is never uploaded unless you export it into a video and share that.
- If the internet drops during a share, Clippy sends it once you are back online.
Storage for shared clips
Only shared clips count towards storage on clippy.gg. Free accounts get 5 GB. Supporters, from $2.99 a month, get 50 GB along with every theme and a few other extras. You can also earn Supporter days by inviting friends. The clips on your own disk never count, however many you keep.
Questions
Do people need an account to watch my clip?
No. Anyone with a Clippy share link can watch the clip without an account.
How do I send a large clip on Discord?
Paste a share link, which embeds cleanly, or use Clippy's "Fit under N MB" export to bring the file under the free upload limit, 10 MB at the time of writing.
Can I make a shared clip private later?
Yes. Clips can be public, unlisted or private, and you can change that after sharing.
Can I share a clip to TikTok from Clippy?
Clippy exports a vertical 9:16 version for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, with fill or blurred background, captions and text. You then upload that file on the platform.
Are my clips uploaded automatically?
No. Clippy keeps clips on your disk until you press Share on one, and only that clip is uploaded.
