Clippy vs Outplayed: a free Outplayed alternative for Windows
Outplayed and Clippy both save moments from your games on Windows. Outplayed is an Overwolf app that can pick out highlights in the games it supports. Clippy works the other way round: you press one key when something happens, in any game, and the last minute is saved.
What Clippy does
- Free, with no watermark. Supporters pay for cosmetics and extra storage, never for the recorder.
- Finds your game and starts recording when it starts. No list of supported games to check: Unreal and Unity games are recognised by how they are built, and tens of thousands of Steam games by name.
- One key (F8 by default) saves the last minute. The buffer goes up to three minutes.
- Records the game window rather than the whole screen.
- On Windows 11, game, desktop and microphone land on separate tracks you can rebalance before sharing.
- Clips stay on your disk until you press Share. Viewers do not need an account to watch.
- Imports your existing Outplayed clips (beta), sorted by game with their original dates.
Where Outplayed is different
- Highlights picked out for you in the games it supports, so a good moment can be kept without a key press.
- Built on the Overwolf platform, which also hosts other apps.
- Its own plans and features, which change over time.

Which one fits
Pick Clippy if you want one key in any game, nothing else running beside it and a plain link to share. Pick Outplayed if you want highlights found for you in the games it covers.
Switching from Outplayed?
Clippy can copy the Outplayed clips already on your PC into its library, sorted by game and with their original dates. How clip import works.
