Clippy vs Eklipse: a Windows recorder or an AI stream clipper

Eklipse and Clippy start from different places. Eklipse connects to your stream channels, or takes a video you upload, and uses AI to find highlights and turn them into vertical clips. Clippy records on your own Windows PC while you play, whether you stream or not, and saves the last minute when you press one key.

Updated November 2026

Eklipse makes vertical clips from your streams with AI and works in a browser, with exporting on a paid plan. Clippy records on your Windows PC and saves the last minute on one key for free, with a Streamer mode that listens to your mic and Twitch chat. What Clippy does

  • Free, with no watermark. Supporters pay for cosmetics and extra storage, never for the recorder.
  • Records on your own PC while a game runs, so you can keep a clip whether you are streaming or not.
  • One key (F8 by default) saves the last minute. The buffer goes up to ten minutes.
  • Streamer mode (off by default) can save a clip when you get loud on your mic, when Twitch chat speeds up, when viewers type !clip or when you press a marker key. It does not read kills or wins from the game.
  • A review screen lists the stream's moments, best first, and a recap joins the best ones into one video.
  • Vertical 9:16 exports for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, with captions generated on your own PC.
  • Clips stay on your disk until you press Share. Viewers do not need an account to watch.

Where Eklipse is different

  • Works from your streams: link Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Facebook or Rumble, or upload a video, with nothing to install on a computer.
  • AI scores moments using gameplay events, audio and chat, then makes vertical 9:16 clips with captions that it can schedule and post for you.
  • A free account lets you connect a channel and preview what it finds. Producing and exporting clips needs a paid plan.

Questions

Does Clippy find highlights in my streams like Eklipse?

Not in the same way. Clippy does not scan a finished stream or read kills and wins from the game. If you turn on Streamer mode, it saves clips during the stream when you get loud on your mic, when Twitch chat speeds up, when viewers type !clip or when you press a marker key.

Is Clippy really free?

Yes. The recorder is free, with no time limit and no watermark on normal exports. Supporters pay for extras such as more shared-clip storage, themes and cosmetics, never for recording. One thing to know: a vertical export made on the free plan carries a small "made with Clippy" mark.

How do I save the last minute of a game?

Press F8, or any key, mouse side button or controller button you choose. Clippy records in the background while a game runs and saves the last stretch it kept: one minute by default, and up to ten minutes if you raise the buffer in Settings.

Does Clippy record my whole screen?

No. It records the game window only, through the Windows Graphics Capture API, so a Discord message or a browser tab never ends up in a clip.

Does Clippy work on any graphics card?

Yes. It encodes on the card with NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF or Intel Quick Sync, and falls back to software if none of them works.

Can I bring my Eklipse clips to Clippy?

Clippy can copy MP4 and MKV clips from any folder on your PC into its library, so clips you downloaded from Eklipse in those formats can come along. See how import works.

Is it safe to use Clippy in games with anti-cheat?

Clippy records through Windows' own window capture and does not inject anything into the game or read its memory. Each game guide says the same about that game, and your game's own rules always come first.
