A game clip recorder with no watermark

Updated 5 November 2026

Plenty of free recorders put a logo on your video or limit how long a recording can be, and you only find out after you have captured something you cannot get back. Clippy is free with no watermark on normal exports and no time limit on the recorder. This page says exactly what it does and does not add to a clip, and lists what to check in any recorder before you rely on it.

What Clippy adds to your clips

Nothing, on a normal export. A clip saved with the hotkey is a plain MP4 of your game window, and a trimmed or exported copy has no logo on it. The recorder has no time limit and is never paid. Supporters pay for extras such as more shared-clip storage, themes and cosmetics, not for the recorder.

There is one exception worth knowing about. A vertical 9:16 export made on the free plan carries a small "made with Clippy" mark, because that is the format people post to TikTok and Shorts. Everything else is exported as it is.

If you want a logo of your own on a clip, Clippy has a Watermark section in Settings where you pick an image, place it and set its size and opacity. It is yours to add, not ours.

What to check in any recorder before you pick it

Watermarks are the visible catch, but they are not the only one. A free recorder can also fail you in quieter ways, and it is cheaper to check these first:

  • A logo on exports. Record one short clip and look at the result before you rely on it.
  • A cap on recording length. Some free versions stop after a fixed time, which matters for a long fight or a full match.
  • Whether the file is really yours. Clips should sit on your own disk as ordinary MP4 files, not only in someone else's cloud.
  • What gets recorded. A recorder that captures your whole screen can put a message or a browser tab into a clip. A game-window recorder cannot.
  • What it costs your frame rate. Hardware encoding on the graphics card is the thing to look for. See recording without an FPS drop.

Record a clip with no watermark in Clippy

There is nothing to switch off, because nothing is added. The steps are the same as for any clip:

  1. Install Clippy from the download page. It is free and runs on Windows 10 and 11.
  2. Start a game. Recording starts by itself and stops when the game closes.
  3. Press F8 after a moment worth keeping. The last minute is saved as an MP4 on your disk.
  4. Trim it in the editor if you like, and share a link or send the file. It carries no logo.

Free does not mean limited here

The recorder, the editor and the share link are all part of the free app. That includes trimming, chapters, speed changes, GIF export, separate game, desktop and microphone tracks on Windows 11, and captions made on your own PC. Questions

Does Clippy put a watermark on my clips?

Not on a normal export. A vertical 9:16 export made on the free plan carries a small "made with Clippy" mark. You can add a logo of your own in Settings.

Is there a time limit on recording?

No, the recorder has no time limit. The replay buffer holds from 20 seconds to ten minutes, which is how far back each save can reach.

Is the recorder really free?

Yes. Supporter is an optional plan for more shared-clip storage, themes and cosmetics. It never unlocks the recorder.

Where are my clips stored?

On your own disk, as ordinary MP4 files, until you press Share. Sharing is optional and works with a plain link.
